Helen Folasade Adu popularly known as Sade Adu was born on January 16, 1959 at Ibadan, Nigeria.
Born to an economics professor father (Nigerian) and a Nurse mother (English), is a Nigerian born British singer, whose high class blend of jazz, afro-carribean, funk, R&B and soul music enchanted every audience and secured for her a place on the table of music legends globally as the first Nigerian music artiste to win a Grammy award and more laurels in her coffers.

Her parents separated when Sade turned four years old, which saw her mother return to Essex, England along with herself and her younger brother. At 17 years old, Sade picked up a career in fashion designing by enrolling in a three year program at London's Central St. Martin's College of Art and Design.
Sade picked up a career in modeling right after her graduation from fashion school and specialized in menswear designs.
Sade's odyssey into music was rather a venture, than planned out. Belonging to a - London-circle - group of friends, which comprised of individuals from all works of life, Sade's journey into music began as she filled in for a group of friends who belonged to this circle who had put together a funk band called - Arriva.
Her first shot at singing did all the magic as she went on to sing for yet another funk music band called - Pride - but this time, more professionally. Her time with the band, Pride, pushed her into taking more time out to work rigorously on herself musically.
The star in Sade was emerging, and Pride had become a little oasis for this star to bask in - so she had to breakaway with a few band-mates at Pride to form her own band. Her groundbreaking 1984 album titled - Diamond Life - with hit tracks like 'Smooth Operator's and 'Your Love is King' swept the world off its feet with her ultra smooth sound delivery which critics could not through time categorize - this album earned Sade and her band, a Grammy award.
Now that Sade had the world stage to her favor, she dropped a second album next year titled - Promise - which did equally well and forced her to get on the road for a world tour. Her 1985 album was quite a historic one virtue to the fact that the hit song - The Sweetest Taboo - stayed on top of the American pop charts for six good months.
1988, saw Sade Adu drop a third studio album titled - Stronger than Pride - which pushed her onto the road one more time for a second world tour. Her fourth studio album titled - Love Deluxe - which was released in 1992 featured another Grammy winning hit single - No Ordinary Love.
Sade broke away from the limelight after a seeming 'last' world tour and settled down to become a mother - the ensuing years were one of media and public evasion. 2001, saw Sade back in the groove with another very successful world tour. Sade dropped yet another studio album in - which was a mashup of her 1980s original unreleased recordings with a hit track from the album - Soldier of Love - winning a Grammy in 2010.
Sade in 2002 was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and in 2018, Sade received a well-deserved promotion to the ranks of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
